Salo Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit school offering a rigorous, classical education in the liberal arts and sciences in an atmosphere that promotes the development of moral character and civic virtue.
Classical Education
Classical education means more than the study of Latin and classical works of literature (both of which we do). It is a conscious return to the ancient goal of education from the Classical Period of Aristotle and Plato, which aims to give the students the necessary tools of learning so that they can think and learn for themselves. It is generally divided into three stages: the grammar stage, in which students are filled with information; the logic stage, in which students begin to think more analytically and structure the world around them; and the rhetoric stage, where students learn to communicate their ideas through writing and speech.
Currently, Salo Academy takes middle school students in grades 5 through 8, which is the logic stage of development.
Individualized Teaching
All instruction is in a small group, allowing for personal attention when and where necessary, with the exception of grammar, spelling, and mathematics, which are taught at each individual’s learning level.
